Lions Clubs across the British Isles and Ireland support young people by recognising their efforts and providing them with opportunities to learn, achieve and grow.
Fairlop Lions Club has been actively supporting the youth in our community in various activities which are as follows:
Young Ambassador
The Young Ambassador Competition seeks to recognize the valuable contribution that young people make to our society through the scheme of the Young Ambassador of the 21st Century award. Many young people make a considerable and positive difference to our society and their efforts often go unnoticed; The Young Ambassador Award makes a small effort to reward their input and hopefully empower other young people to get involved in charity work. The award scheme also helps to portray young people in the media positively in an attempt to detract from the negative image that is created by a small minority of youths.
The entry to the competition is made via sponsorship of a Lions Club.
Musical Competition
We at Fairlop have been serving the local community for many years. While our main focus is always on helping the needy, we also endeavour to work with the community to encourage participation and promote Lionism, especially to the youth community.
With this in mind, and as part of our cultural and community activities we sponsor young people with musical talent into our European Musical competition. Each year there is a different instrument and in one particular year our candidate got to the European finals.
Peace Poster Competition
The Lions International Peace Poster Contest encourages young people, ages 11 to 13, to artistically express their views of peace – the overall worldwide winner is introduced at the Lions United Nations Day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York each year.
Each year Lions clubs around the world proudly sponsor the Peace Poster contest in local schools and youth groups encouraging young people ages 11-13 to artistically express their visions of peace.
Youth Football Competition
In the British Isles and Ireland the Lions 5 nations Youth Football Tournament allows teams (under 14 years old) to compete against each other in the only EUFA sanctioned competition for this age group.
Leos and Scouts
Leos are young people aged between 11 and 28 years. LEO stands for Leadership, Experience and Opportunities for young people from all backgrounds, races and religions. There are over 5,000 LEO Clubs representing 137 countries with a membership of 142,000 young people.
The Lions Club of Fairlop are also the only club in the UK to sponsor a scout group.
District Youth Celebration
Every year Fairlop Lions and Leos along with other Lion Clubs organise a trip for disadvantaged children to attend the District Youth Celebration.
Children’s Xmas Activities
Christmas Parties for Special Needs and Under Privileged Children
Together with the Redbridge Forum in Ilford, we organized a Christmas party to give children a day to remember.
Easter Egg Hunt & Duck Race
The Zone consists of four local Lions clubs who all worked together to organise a wonderful day for the children of our local community. The clubs participating were the Lions Clubs of Fairlop; Wanstead & Woodford; London Seven Kings; and Barking.
