Lions Club of Fairlop is proud to be sponsoring a local under 14’s football team in this prestigious competition which is sanctioned by the English FA and UEFA.
The benefits of participating in such an event is that we as Lions members get the opportunity to meet members from other clubs that we may never get the opportunity to meet, and for the team to play against opponents and in towns that they may never have heard of, let alone been to before.
The competition has been running for a few years and this year has been restricted to one age group. It is a national knock-out competition played between November and April with the semi-finals and final held at neutral venues which in the past have been professional football league grounds.
In 2007 we sponsored ECLIPSE FC who played in the East London and Essex league and are pictured below with Lion President Guy Jandoo on the left, Club secretary Paul Chakravarti on the right and team coach John Fletcher in the back row.
In 2008-9 we sponsored Redbridge United (pictured below) who made it to the finals of the competition but were beaten 1-0 on the day. Despite the result this was a wonderful experience for both the team and our Lions Club as we were able to meet other football teams and Lions members throughout the county which would not have been possible without the competition.
In 2009-10 we sponsored Woodford Youth who got to the final and won the competition.
