Roding Valley Community Orchards
Saturday 23rd January 2016 11am – 3pm
At Roding Valley, Roding Lane South, London, IG4 5PL
Trees for Cities partnered with the borough of Redbridge and Vision RCL to plant a traditional apple orchard in the Roding Valley meadow in Redbridge. The orchard is designed as a traditional, mixed variety orchard using varieties that have a heritage link to the meadow’s old Victorian pumping station. The new orchard will provide both free fruit for the local community and vital habitat for pollinators and other invertebrates.
Members of Fairlop Lions, Stony Stratford Lions and Fairlop Leos Club were there as part of the volunteer team planting 30 new mixed variety fruit trees on the community planting day on the 23rd January. This is a follow on from the original planting in January 2013. We were provided with tree planting training and experience and had live music , children’s craft and face painting activities and refreshments –very welcome on a cold day!!There was a photo shoot and later that day Lion Doreen and two Leos were on the Trees for Cities website alongside the local police officer.
